November 8, 2016 Statewide and local Endorsements
President | Hillary Clinton | Really? Is this even a question? Hillary 2016 |
US Senate | Kamala Harris | Just listen to Loretta speak and it should clear it up for you. Kamala takes no prisoners. |
Janice Hahn | L.A. County Supervisor District 4 | |
Darrell Park | L.A. County Supervisor District 5 | Darrell is a good man and another institutional staffer in Barger is just too much. The board is already fairly left, so let’s give the new guy a whirl, particularly one that doesn’t represent the conservative and backward policies pushed by Barger on behalf of her former boss for the last over a decade! |

Yes | Measure A (L.A. County parcel tax for parks) | More green space please |
See note | Measure M (L.A. Metro sales tax for transportation) | This is a tought one. In theory fundraising for infrastructure is critical and we really like Metro’s initiative in putting it forward, unfortunately this is a blank check with zero accountability. Metro has some terrific projects on their plate that will get funded by this measure but… Our hope is that they write a new one that does not put the burden on the poor thru sales tax which is already too high in Cali and is not an open ended blank check. Perhaps its a luxury tax or even going for raising the State sales tax a hair. Harder to do, but well worth the effort. On the other hands, given the crazy in the world and electeds incapable of making honest decisions about anything, do we take that risk and do we lose out considerably if we don’t support. We’ll let you wrestle with the decision. |
Yes | Measure CC (L.A. Community College District bond) | A reluctant yes. Supposed to be spent on infrastructure |
Yes | Measure FF (Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority parcel tax) | Woodland Hills, Encino, and Tarzana |
Yes | Measure GG (Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority parcel tax) | Santa Monica Mountains and Hollywood Hills |
See note | Measure HHH (L.A. City homelessness housing bond) | We are truly heartbroken by this poorly thought out measure. Homeless advocates that do not receive their income from Government grants and subsidies overwhelmingly reject Measure HHH. There is no plan for the funds other than “to build housing”. Who and how that money is allocated remains a mystery as well as how many people can be housed, what type of housing, and on and on. There are some good people supporting this measure and we believe their heart is in the right place so don’t be mad at them, but they just need to one, come up with a plan, two get the county and state to pony up and three look at REAL solutions in solving a crisis that has become a billion dollar industry. And guess who is not getting the billions. Come back in March. |
See note | Measure JJJ (L.A. City affordable housing mandate) | The City has lost its mind with respect to affordable housing. The formula is completely backwards. Developers get an FAR bonus for adding only 5% to their projects so for a project producing 455 units only 23 affordable units are required. That means that the rest of the units are “market rate” or luxury. Meanwhile elected officials who campaigns are almost exclusively funded by developers can’t do enough to pass this bad planning thru. This measure is the LA Fed looking to capitalize on the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative coming to the March Ballot. Sadly this does nothing to stop the corruption in the City. It is extremely narrow and short sited and unfortunately does nothing to help support making the majority of new housing units affordable hurting the very laborers the are claiming to support. |
No | Measure RRR (L.A. DWP reform) | Opens the door for increases. DWP get your house in order |
No | Measure SSS (L.A. City airport police pensions) | Too vague |
